Although the main worry at the moment is covid-19 – we are well set up for triaging those with relevant symptoms.
We are not seeing breast lumps, postnatal depression, skin infections, pelvic pain, abnormal bleeding, mini-strokes, rectal bleeding, suspicious weight loss, moles that are changing shape, palpitations, chest pain suspicious for angina, abdominal pain suspicious for appendicitis etc. They must be still happening but people are staying at home. The paediatric community is desperately worried about sick kids not coming to hospital because their parents are understandably scared.
GPs are open!
We are trying to keep our surgeries as covid free as possible, by seeing all patients with symptoms of covid in central hot hubs, not in their own practices. So if you have something worrying, please phone us, we will give you an initial consultation by phone or possibly a video call and if I think I need to see you face to face I’ll tell you and make arrangements for you to be seen.
This may not be the best time to tell us about your ingrowing toenail that you’ve not got round to sorting for 6 months, but if you have new symptoms that are worrying you, please contact your GP.
We are really worried that the morbidity and mortality of those who are scared to go to the GP might be almost as big as those who die of covid-19 itself.
Look after yourselves and stay safe.
